Grimaldi Luigino winery


GRIMALDI LUIGINO
PIEMONTE

The Groppone winery is situated on a hillside in Diano d'Alba, opposite the Castle of Grinzane Cavour. It is an important area for the production of wines. The Grimaldi family have been producing wines in this area for three generations now since the beginning of the last century. In the last few decades the distribution of the wines has increased not only in Italy, but also to include exports to northern Europe, the U.S.A., Canada and Japan.


Wines:
BARBARESCO D.O.C.G. Vigna Manzola

This wine is produced from the best Nebbiolo grapes from the Vigna Manzola vineyard situated in the town of Treiso d'Alba, in the Barbaresco production area. The fermentation of this wine is carefully controlled; it is then aged in oak barrels and small barriques. After this, it is left to fine in the bottle for a short time. The wine has a lovely garnet/ red colour with hints of orange. The intense bouquet reminds one of dry flowers and violets. It is a full-bodied wine with a dry, vigorous, austere yet delicate, velvety flavour.


BAROLO D.O.C.G. Vigna San Biagio 
This wine is produced from a careful selection of the best Nebbiolo grapes from the Vigna San Biagio vineyard in the municipality of La Morra. The fermentation of this wine is carefully controlled; it is then aged in oak barrels and small barriques. After this, it is left to fine in the bottle for a short time. The wine has a lovely garnet/ red colour with hints of orange. The intense bouquet reminds one of withered violets and roses; tarry notes add further depth to the soft and velvety, ethereal aromas. The flavour is well-balanced, austere and pleasantly persistent.


NEBBIOLO D'ALBA D.O.C. Vigna Campè
This wine is produced using the best Nebbiolo grapes from the Vigna Campè vineyard situated in the municipality of Diano d'Alba. The fermentation of this wine is carefully controlled; it is then aged in oak barrels and small barriques. After this, it is left to fine in the bottle for a short time. The wine has a lovely, intense ruby red colour with garnet highlights. It has a good level of acidity and is medium-bodied. The gentle and delicate bouquet reminds one of violets; it gains further strength and refinement with a little age.


DOLCETTO DI DIANO D'ALBA D.O.C. Vigna Groppone Sorì Montagrillo

The Dolcetto di Diano d'Alba is only produced in the municipality of Diano d'Alba. This wine is produced from the best grapes taken from the Vigna Groppone family vineyard. This vineyard forms part of the Montagrillo Sorì Diano d'Alba. It is extremely well suited to vine growing, with a perfect southerly exposure and very fertile soil. The fermentation of this wine is carefully controlled; it is then left to fine in the bottle for a short time. This great wine has a ruby red colour and an intense and fruity bouquet. The flavour is dry, pleasantly almond-scented with a persistent after taste; it is classical, medium-bodied and well balanced.


DOLCETTO D'ALBA D.O.C.

This wine has a ruby red colour with purplish hints. It has a pleasant bouquet with lots of fruit. This is a young and fresh wine that preserves the pleasant flavour of the grapes from which it is made. It has a dry, pleasantly almond-scented, delicate flavour. It is a fragrant wine to be drunk fairly soon, preferably within the year after production. Its simple characteristics make it an ideal table wine that compliments a wide variety of different dishes.




BARBERA D'ALBA D.O.C. SUPERIORE Vigna Vecchia Groppone
This wine is produced from a careful selection of the best grapes from the Vigna Vecchia Groppone family vineyard, situated in the municipality of Diano d'Alba. After a careful and accurate selection process, the grapes arrive at the wine cellar for the soft pressing process. The pulp is then fermented at a carefully controlled temperature. The wine is then aged in small oak barriques for a period of 12 months. It is then left fine in the bottle for a further period of time. The wine has good structure and body, the colour is intense ruby red, and after one year of ageing it acquires shades of garnet. The bouquet is fruity with hints of vanilla.


GAVI D.O.C.G.

This wine is produced using Cortese grapes coming from a vineyard situated on the well-known hills of Gavi. The grapes used in making this wine are carefully selected and the fermentation of the wine is carefully controlled. The colour is a light straw yellow with brilliant greenish highlights. The bouquet is fruity and delicate; the taste is dry and pleasantly fresh with a persistent fragrance.


ROERO ARNEIS D.O.C. Vigna le coste


This wine is produced from Arneis grapes from the Le Coste vineyard situated in the municipality of Vezza d'Alba, in the well-known hills of Roero. The grapes used in making this wine are carefully selected and the fermentation of the wine is carefully controlled. The colour is a light straw yellow with brilliant greenish highlights. The bouquet is delicate and fruity with hints of broom and camomile flowers; it has a pleasant finish of peaches and melons. The flavour is well balanced and dry, pleasantly fresh and persistent.



GRIMALDI LANGHE CHARDONNAY D.O.C.
For a few years now, we have been extending the cultivation of Chardonnay vineyards on the hills of Langa around Alba. The vines have adapted well to this soil and climate and the resulting wines are excellent. The wine is obtained from the slow and controlled fermentation of the must of Chardonnay grapes at a low temperature. It has an intense, fruity, fine and elegant bouquet. It is medium-bodied with a delicate with pleasantly fresh flavour.


MOSCATO D'ASTI DOCG

Moscato d'Asti is obtained from the soft pressing of Moscato grapes. It is characterised by its sweet amber tinges and by its short fermentation period, which produces a delicate and pleasantly scented wine. The colour is intense, light, golden yellow. The bouquet retains the fragrance of the Moscato grape. The characteristic flavour is sweet and aromatic. It is a sweet, scented wine with a low alcohol content. It is best enjoyed slightly chilled and should be drunk when still young. It makes a very good dessert wine.
